Rescuing Food ♥ Nourishing Communities

Access to safe and nutritious food is a basic human right – but every day people in our community are going hungry. FoodShare is a perishable food rescue organisation based in Dunedin. We collect quality excess food from commercial businesses including supermarkets, farmers markets, catering companies and more and distribute it, free of charge to local charities and social service agencies. The food we rescue provides vital assistance for vulnerable men, women and children.

Who We Help

FoodShare believes that no one in our community should go hungry. All food donated to FoodShare is given to people in our local community who don't have sufficient food. We distribute the food we collect to select service agencies and community organisations who make sure all the food collected goes to those who truly need it. With a focus on fresh fruit and vegetables the food received by families and individuals in need makes a significant difference to their quality of life.

"The Valley Project is one of many charities that receives food on a weekly basis from FoodShare. It is a great program because it reduces waste and benefits those in need. It has become an important program in our community which benefits over 50 Valley residents who otherwise struggle to put food on their tables." - The Valley Project

What Helps Us Run

FoodShare relies on our volunteers to help reduce food wastage and feed hungry people. We welcome anyone prepared to help with food collection, sorting and delivery.

Soon-to-expire perishable food and excess supplies make up the bulk of the food we receive. We need suitable foods such as fresh produce, meat, poultry, dairy, eggs, fruit, readymade meals, frozen foods and non-alcoholic drinks.

Even an organisation run with the support of volunteers needs funds. We require funds for day-to-day operations and to get our message out to the community. We welcome donations from those who want to help our cause.
